The Cost of social media ...

While editing our latest tutorial/code walk through video I kept a journal of the production sessions.

    Recording
        28 min + 21 min = 49 min

    First pass for cleanup
        2:00 PM → 3:30 PM = 90 min
        5:30 PM → 7:00 PM = 90 min
        11:00 PM → 4:00 AM = 300 min
        Total: 90 + 90 + 300 = 480 min

    Overlays pass
        1:00 PM → 3:30 PM = 150 min
        6:00 PM → 7:15 PM = 75 min
        11:00 PM → 4:30 AM = 330 min
        Total: 150 + 75 + 330 = 555 min

    Clean up
        1:00 PM → 3:30 PM = 150 min
        6:00 PM → 7:15 PM = 75 min
        Total: 150 + 75 = 225 min

    Rendering + Uploading
        35 min + 15 min

    Thumbnail
        15 min

    Descriptions/Keywords/Links
        30 min

    Final Total
    49 + 480 + 555 + 225 + 35 + 15 + 15 + 30 = 1404 minutes

Yep....  That's 23 hours and 24 minutes of production time!  for a video nobody will watch !  and that doesn't include writing the examples in the first place..

that's a lot of effort. now i can see why some people have a video person.

do you enjoy doing this?
It's easy to start a program, but harder to finish it...

I think that means i am getting old and get side tracked too easy.

Yeah :(  I can't imagine making content to some sort of weekly schedule.  Forget the drain on video ideas, but executing those ideas would virtually mandate having 3rd parties share the load.

The real slap in the face is after upload something, the platform doesn't even suggest to those in your niche..

Nope.  Your basically trying to produce a 1/2 hour of free tv for people..

how has google search changed from the past to now?

you were saying you got good search results in the past but not now, and smaller sites are closing down.

i have noticed over the years when i searched google for something i used to get lots of results, but now i get much fewer results. especially with image searches, compared to the past.

It's been getting worse over the last decade.  In terms of PB About 5 year ago, we completely vanished from google results.   They were indexing PlayBASIC.com (constantly) but _wouldn't_ show any those pages in user searches.

Today, there's some many issues, like from people/bots game the results (paying more for higher precedence in results)  through to just the instability of the sites over time.  Impacting a sites page rank.

Classically sites were given a page rank by inbound links.  Those are like votes, the more inbound links your domain has, the more valuable the resource is within any given niche.   This also flow two ways, when high value sites  link you, some of their rank washes off onto yours.   The problem with this, is that small sites generally only last a few years.  So when such domain vanish (that were linking into you), then those votes coming also vanish, negatively impacts the rank of your page.

etc etc..  have to take the dogs for to the park..   Will rant later :)
