As already introduced in a thread in the general subforum, I here present the current implementation of my puzzle game Creeping Angels. The instructions are included in the exe, and I hope you'll be able to run it on your computers. Any feedback will be most welcome, such as whether you like the concept and if you think the ordering of the levels is right (i.e. easiest to hardest). For the benefit of those who don't/can't play the game, it's an elaboration on the games "Theseus and the Minotaur" and "Mummy Maze", inspired by the "Weeping Angels" from Doctor Who, with their quantum-locking attribute.

Regarding the distribution of this (and other) games, I've just seen that the language GLBasic lets you make iPad and Android versions. Can anything like this be done with PlayBasic? (By the way, I tried a few weeks ago to use GLBasic, but the compiler played up on me...)

Okay then, have fun playing Creeping Angels, guys :)

EDIT: I've changed the mapping of the keys to the more conventional WASD and the arrows regime. Everything else has stayed the same.

EDIT 2: I've added a page to the how-to-play section explaining about the angels' movement. Everything else has stayed the same.

I got it to work. Once id unzipped it to the C: drive.

I could only manage 3 moves at max thou before getting jumped on  :o

I see that 7 people have thus far downloaded the game. It's nice to think of new people playing my game that for so long had been hidden away  :)

Did you read everything in the how-to-play section, baggey? It sounds like the direction-changing aspect slipped you by.

I like the concept of the game, especially since I'm a big fan of Doctor Who and get the premise. Great work! The only suggestion I would make is to allow the player to remap the keys. I think I'd prefer using WASD and the arrow keys, especially since I use a MS ergonomic keyboard and the B and N keys are over an inch apart.

bmorris

Glad you like it, fellow Whovian!

You know, I used that mapping partly because it made a nice layout, but also because WASD and the arrow keys get the most worn. But based on what you've said, especially with regard to ergonomic keyboards, I've decided to change to the more conventional arrangement. I've tweaked the code and re-uploaded the game, which 9 people in total had downloaded.

BlinkOk

this is a very cool game mr morris. the concept is awesome!
i think if you made the controls a little more intuitive (i dont know how though) it would be perfect.

daver

Controls are now perfect for me! Now I just have to figure out level 6.

I really like this, love the Weeping Angels on Doctor Who, they creep me out.  I still don't like walking by angel statues anywhere....  This game is good, difficult to get the hang of the controls at first, but very good.

stevmjon

a good challenge.  i made it to level 14.

It's easy to start a program, but harder to finish it...

I think that means i am getting old and get side tracked too easy.

Thanks fellahs. I'm glad the game's getting so well received.

Regarding the controls, you might've seen that I've changed them, so if these criticisms about the controls refer to the old version, I hope I've improved matters in the new version. I think it's probably fundamentally strange to have TWO sets of up/down/left/right, but at the end of the day, it's unavoidable here.

monkeybot

That's really annoying!! well done,good job! ;D

bmorris

Thanks.

If anyone ever wants to know how to solve a particular level, feel free to ask here or PM me, and I'll happily furnish the information.

Hi All

Nice game Bobby , took me a while to suss out to play , but what a brilliant first game , simple and fun to play, well coding might av not been that simple

Ta Mick. I can tentatively add that as well as being my first game it'll probably be my last, as it's the only gaming idea I've ever had. My next PlayBasic project (God knows when I'll do it) will be a Sokoban playing environment with simple GFX, replays, and full undo-ability.
