IDE Version 1.1.7b

I what it says kevin and it don't have a watermark.
LBFN nice work! I like what you've done so far.
At least someone's interested without thinking that I'm kidding around.
Maybe some people fool around like that but I'm not one of those.
I love to program and make demo's,special effects, games ect...
I've been doing this kinda thing for years even though I'm new to playbasic I've used make basic vresions in the past and shared with tons of other programmers out there. I've gotten help for so many people on boards just like this and we've done thing together. I do usually give my code away it is just that this time I was asking for just a little help first for this one as it took me 6 months of alot of work to get it to were it is now and so far LBFN is the only one who to me serious.  I don't play jokes when it comes to this stuff because I don't wanna lose the privlage of haveing online friends plus I would not like it if someone else was leading me on either.

Thanks,
Peace,
and
Happy Computing!

Next up:

I think that you referred to this as a satellite, but I always thought it was an alien, because it has two eyes.

ScottieB

Yup! It's a satellite not an alien but I see why you'd be confused.
LBFN are you going to wait until you have them all made before you
allow me to download them? I like seeing your pictures and I love it that your talking to me along the lines of missle command but do you have a guess on when you might have all sprites ready?  And thanks once more for takeing me serious as I would love to see my game with the new face your introduceing. peace and gewdose!

LBFN

QuoteLBFN are you going to wait until you have them all made before you

You should be able to click on the pic and then right-click on the image and use SAVE AS to save the images to your PC.

I am horrible about setting deadlines for when I can get stuff done, as I am almost always wrong.  Therefore, I hesitate to provide a time when I expect them to be complete.  This isn't a really big project, so it shouldn't be weeks on end.  I plan to work on them as I am able.

I wanted to wait to see if you had any crit / feedback on the city I made before I made the exploding city images.  I plan to work on them tomorrow.

I have previously made a 3D model of a Phantom 4e jet, which I thought to grab pics of for the airplane.  We'll see how it goes.

As to the cursor, do you want to use an 'X' like in the game, or maybe something that looks like this:    [ ]   ?  You could still place an 'X' or a '+' where the missile target is located.

For the missiles, what about a mini-version of a rocket (white with red/black maybe)?

ScottieB

OK, no deadline if that's easier for you. Just keep me posted on any advances. I will need to be able to download them though because grabbing them as a pic is cutting them. So feel free to attach them. As for the crosshair you can make the choice or make a variety for different sprites for each your working one ie. the missle rockets, smart bombs ect... and we can have a vote for which ones to use for the actual game.  You might want some varients as well one idea might be what would a black and white city look like? play around with stuff a bit and see what you come up with ok?
thanks
and bye for now!

Missile (and pic to show what they would look like):

EDIT: To save the pic, click on the link to it and just click save.

POST EDIT:
QuoteYou might want some varients as well one idea might be what would a black and white city look like?
I used greys to make this city.

Also made a revised missile, as the first one didn't look like I wanted.

Had to make new post because I can only attach 4 images.  Anyway, here are some cursors.

Also, here is city1 exploding.  There are 4 images within this (each is 64 X 48 - larger so you can have particles).

ScottieB

Awesome! I needed to update IE to download them. duh! Hey, I still don't have picture of original city because it's in the missle command pic.  Wow! I like those 2.5 view pics of city2. How did you make that? I'd love to hear the algo? That way I can make 6 different cities and 6 different destroyed cities. Besides that we only need airplane and smartbombs. Man, You've been busy I see.  You are definitely going to get a free copy of my program when were done. Oh, by the way can you put up just the terrain also? I'd also like to know how you did that? If you don't mine me asking. I'll give another summation of all we need.

6 cities - I like your type 2.5 view
6 destroyed cities the ones above.
1 airplane
1 satalite - got it!
1 smartbomb
1 missle - got it!

that's it.
but I love your deviations that your fooling around with.

Do you still think we should take a vote later? on what to keep and actually use.

QuoteHey, I still don't have picture of original city because it's in the missle command pic.
I think I will resize the original city to 64 X 48.  Although the actual city will be the same size, when you change the sprite images to animate it, you won't have to re-position it.  I plan to post it up tomorrow.  Same thing for City2.

QuoteWow! I like those 2.5 view pics of city2. How did you make that?
Thanks.  I created a 3D model of the city and took pics of it.  I then used PhotoShop to finish it up.  The original city is actually UV mapped and the second city just has different shades of grey applied to each model.

QuoteOh, by the way can you put up just the terrain also?
Sure, I'll plan to post it tomorrow.

QuoteI'd also like to know how you did that?
I used PhotoShop.

QuoteDo you still think we should take a vote later? on what to keep and actually use.

You could ask, but people haven't been commenting too much.

Regarding the Smart Bomb, the original version seems pertty lame; like a diamond-shaped object that blinks.  Do you have any thoughts to make it more interesting-looking?

EDIT: terrain and city1 pics (I included all of city1 images into one).

ScottieB

Awesome smartbomb! I like it. I also like your gray buildings they look 2.5 dimension. We do need 6 different citys and then those cities each destroyed.  So that's 12 sprites/bitmaps.  I don't mean to pressure you. It's just that I don't want all the cities to look the same. Your gray ones stickout more than the colored they give it a 3d look. Oh, and we still need an airplane.  Take you time your doing great! I see your putting alot of energy into this as I did the actual program it's 6 months along as of this year. There is still more I have to do but it is a working prototype.  I just wanted someone to help me make the face of it look better and that's what you doing although it is still going to take time.  If you don't mind can I get you name and e-mail address so I can eventually send you the program. It's pretty big too big to put here. runs up on the megs.  I will make sure you get a copy for helping me out.  I just hope you hang in there alittle more and try meet the needs that this program needs for graphics your well on the way. I just hope you don't give up on me half way through because like with the cities we need mutipules.  but once again thanks for pushing it alittle bit further.

Thank you.  I think I will create another smartbomb that is similar, but the outer rings are diagonal, kindof like an atomic particle, just to give you a second option.  As to the cities, I will see what I can do for a total of six, along with their destroyed images too.  I intend to stick with this and do not plan on going anywhere.

If you point your mouse at the letter-shaped icon on the left, it gives you my email address.  You can compress files using WinRar.  Here is a link to a trial version:

It is a must-have for game developers IMO.

EDIT: Purple city and teal city attached.

ScottieB

Pretty! Love'em! Those are perfect! Damn sharp too! Like the colorization.  Six of them would be all we need. Destroyed ones too. They say the original game it was san deago ect.. all california cities to protect.  Ours look like New York! or maybe future cities.  We should give them all a name. hehehe  What's an IMO? Instuctions?  We could use a storyline for our game as well.  Are you anygood at writeing?  How did you get them so small? When I was playing around mine we too hign-res to srink because if I did they got all pixelized out of proportion.  Is there any terrain modeller we can use like terragen, bryce, ted??? because those look so good now we need a super-kewl landscape to go with those super-kewl hi-detailed small sprites!

Can't wait too see more. I eager to see what's next.  But honestly you've won my heart over to giveing you the code now for real. And you make it so that I now wanna go back and do more work on it.  Can't wait to see this stuff in action.

Here's an odd ball question.  This missles not the ones at the sylo's but the dot's that leave a trace (line) when fireing.  Is there some way we could make like a particle(s) for a better look?
Man! Were really re-vamping this retro-classic!

by for now and thanks once again
p.s. I'm kinda real busy with school right now but I will still try to find time to dedicate to this project also.  You will definitely be in the credits for Graphics-Designer! and me as Lead-Programmer and SFX-Engineer. but if you wanna get into the programmer status as well then the partical-engine would be great something that moves a dot, makes a line and somekinda effect trail. What do you think?

IMO = in my opinion :)

Glad you liked them.  I have attached one using red colors.

I consider myself decent at writing, but you are recreating a graphically stepped-up version of Missile Command.  I don't see where a story is needed myself.

QuoteHow did you get them so small?
I crop the pic of the buildings, cut it and paste it into a new image.  I then downsize it to 128 X 64.  PhotoShop does a nice job of downsizing.

QuoteIs there any terrain modeller we can use like terragen, bryce, ted???
I use Advanced Terrain with Dark Basic Pro and could grab pics of it, but that would take a fair amount of work.  I thought you liked the landscape that I made(??)

QuoteThis missles not the ones at the sylo's but the dot's that leave a trace (line) when fireing.  Is there some way we could make like a particle(s) for a better look?
Why not just use the silo missiles as sprites and leave a trail behind them?  You could rotate them toward the spot they are heading.  You could scale them down a bit, but it may not come off looking very good.  They're like 10 X 28, I think.  You could put a fire trail at the back of them for effect.

QuoteYou will definitely be in the credits for Graphics-Designer! and me as Lead-Programmer and SFX-Engineer. but if you wanna get into the programmer status as well then the partical-engine would be great something that moves a dot, makes a line and somekinda effect trail. What do you think?
Thanks for the offer, but I have some other things that I am working on besides this.

EDIT:  I also have attached another version of the Smart Bomb.  I like this one better.

POST EDIT:
Added the pic of the F-4.  I sized it as you wanted, but to me it looks too large.

POST POST EDIT:
Remade the terrain.
