The game is called "Cave Story." I just downloaded it and i'm hooked.  Probably the most fun 2d game i've ever played - and its just dripping in style.  All done in pixel art - and looks like this type of game could easily be accomplished in PB.  I hope this inspires you coders...

BTW, that game makes me wanna resurrect my 10-12 years old platform idea. Keeping it almost as simple. I won't be able to compare with the storry but I've been thinking of making a third person shooter before so I got loads of cool gameplay ideas that would work in a sidescroller.
